Hey, I'm Snail! I'm a justice-driven designer, gently flipping tables, and crafting lasting change. I believe in the dignity of all people with a desire to uplift the unheard voices.
Design is a symbiotic relationship where beliefs intertwine to create the extraordinary. I grasp and dance with these beliefs—God, Slow, Perspective, Analysis, and Change—whenever I encounter new opportunities. Design is God: if God creates and designs, then my identity, rooted in Him, reflects His creative nature. Design is Slow: embodying patience and intentionality brings joy and worship, echoing God’s ordered steps in creation. Design is Perspective: understanding others through empathy and curiosity widens my vision and creates space for God. Design is Analysis: it is the act of making sense of disorder through intentionality, mirroring God’s justice and holiness. Design is Change: a response to the cry for transformation, marvelously shifting the status quo with God as my guide. Together, these beliefs reveal that design is immeasurably greater than I, a divine collaboration with the Creator.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
The Design program will open your eyes to the breadth of possiblities you have with Design. Don't limit yourself. You can do it. Find a friend & work hard.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
EJI Legacy Museum. As chaotic as the trip was, the true meat and potatoes was painful, heartbreaking, yet extraordinarly renewing. Saying that the Legacy museum was life-changing would be an understatment. Radically beautiful.
What was your favorite A+D class?
Hard spilt between Design for Social Values and Advanced 2.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
100% Fall of Junior Year, taking Design for Social Values. Over the course of the semester I came into the realization that Design is simply a tool that I can use to partner with my passions.
What's next for you?
Hopefully, Grad School and working alongside Non-Profits and Organizations that work in Policy Change for our country.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
We've learned that everything is designed, and that means systems, policies, and laws. I desire to bring my research methods and creative thinking skills to the roundtable where social welfare, mass incarceration, and systemic injustices are being reviewed and revised.
