I believe design is an invitation to behold, to recognize the goodness, truth, and beauty in the world. Design cultivates a childlike sense of endless wonder and curiosity. As a designer, I have a heightened ability to behold, to discover and find joy in the unexpected, in small and hidden wonders, in beauty and fellowship, and when gazing upon God’s creation with awe. I believe that my responsibility as a designer is to share beholdings in ways that allow others to partake in the wonder and transcending joy of design as well.

Design is a process of thinking, decision making, and acting, that allows me to intentionally express sincere care and humble servitude. Intentionality involves constantly refocusing on the purpose of my life and of design. I believe that my purpose, above all, is to do what God has created His people to do all along: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. I am called to seek and glorify God and enjoy Him forever, loving my neighbor as myself. For me, the purpose of design is to honor God, humbly serve others, and be a heartfelt offering of gratitude for the resources, skill sets, and opportunities I have been trusted to steward.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

Perfection is NOT the goal of design. My means of faithful stewardship through design is using the imperfect talents God has entrusted to me, asking Him to use the forms of my offerings to accomplish His purposes and serve others well, and working diligently and faithfully until a good solution has been reached.

How do you hope your work makes an impact?

I believe God designed humanity and our world with purposeful intent, incomprehensible specificity, divine order, and compassion. It is my hope that my design work reflects this great care that God has for His beloved people, exude generosity, and demonstrate a genuine regard for the recipients as individuals.
