I am a photography student passionate about fusing commercial photography with my love for fine arts, blending traditional techniques with my own creative vision to craft unique, authentic, and eye catching imagery.
I am a photography student based in Durham NC, with a passion for creating a unique approach to commercial photography. Starting school with a concentration in painting and drawing I eventually switched my focus to a more commercial method of approaching art, but I still enjoy creating images inspired by my love for the traditional arts. Pulling ideas like composition from Baroque paintings and color and lighting from Pop Art helps me to bring a fresh perspective to my photography process.
With a primary focus in food photography I apply this approach to capture and style food products in a ways that goes beyond the expected. Drawing on various types of art for inspiration helps me to create pieces that are both authentic and dynamic. In the future I hope to continue pushing the infusion of my other interests into photography to create even more compelling work.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
I would give myself the freedom to experiment more. To not be afraid to try the weird thing and just give any idea a go whether it may work out or not.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
I think one of my favorite memories were my first few shoots in the studio for the studio lighting class. It was my first time being able to shoot with all the lighting equipment and I remember having a lot of fun with it.
What was your favorite A+D class?
My favorite class has been ART 479.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
My projects from photo 3 were some of the most pivotal to my growth as an artist. They gave me the chance to really experiment with what interested me and pushed me to try some more unique approaches to photography.
