Hi, I'm Kaitlyn Phillips, a graphic designer who is passionate about using design to tell stories, create experiences, and form lasting impact for others.
I believe design is all about creating with intent. For me, this means being intentional about every design decision, understanding that design is not just about looks or functionality, but about crafting experiences that leave a positive, lasting impact. Through design, I have the chance to learn the stories of others, to understand what makes them unique, while also sharing my own story by bringing my life experiences into the process. Design—when approached with intention—becomes a powerful tool for connection, empathy, and understanding.
I believe that designing with intent is about weaving my core values into my work—helping others, solving problems, and continuously evolving. By working with purpose, every project becomes more than just an outcome; it’s a thoughtful solution that reflects both my personal journey and the stories of those I design for. This mindset allows me to blend my passion for helping others with my creative process, guiding a design journey rooted in care, storytelling, curiosity, and a genuine desire to create meaningful, positive change.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Embrace the discomfort and experiment fearlessly. Growth, creativity, and innovation happen when you push beyond the familiar.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
One of my favorite A+D memories was when our senior cohort hosted a Friendsgiving with all of our classmates and professors. Everyone brought their favorite Thanksgiving dishes, and it was such a great time to be together, eat delicious food, and just enjoy each other’s company.
What was your favorite A+D class?
Advanced Design 1 was easily my favorite class! I enjoyed working with tailored yet highly realistic briefs that pushed my creativity and problem-solving abilities. This course not only boosted my confidence as a designer but also challenged me to grow, refine my skills, and strengthen my portfolio.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
Pitch week was a defining moment for me as a designer. It taught me how to present my work effectively and, just as importantly, how to confidently explain the decisions and processes behind it in front of large audiences.
What's next for you?
After graduation, I plan to join Anderson University’s Marketing & Communications Department as a full-time Content Designer, crafting digital experiences across the university’s platforms!
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope my work makes an impact by focusing on people and their experiences. I aim to create designs that inspire, uplift, and bring people together, fostering a sense of connection and promoting positive change.
