Hey! My name is Skylar Ford, and I am a Graphic Designer with a passion for Branding, Typography, Iconography and Illustration. With a keen eye for detail and creativity, I craft visually engaging designs that tell meaningful stories.
As a graphic designer, I approach each project with a deep appreciation for the power of visual storytelling. My work is rooted in the belief that design is not just about aesthetics, but about creating meaningful connections between people and brands. I am especially passionate about branding, where I can help shape a brand’s identity from the ground up, ensuring it resonates with its audience. Typography, iconography, and illustration are also skills that I am passionate about, allowing me to communicate messages with clarity and creativity while keeping the user experience at the forefront of my work.
Through my designs, I strive to craft unique and memorable visuals that make an impact. Whether it’s designing a logo that captures the essence of a brand or creating custom illustrations that bring a fresh perspective, I’m driven by the challenge of blending form and function seamlessly. I believe that great design should be both beautiful and purposeful, and I aim to bring this philosophy to every project I undertake. Each piece I create is an opportunity to push boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and ultimately deliver designs that are not only visually engaging but also meaningful.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
If there’s ever a moment where you think you can’t do it anymore, you probably can. Take a break, eat some food, drink some water, and get back to it.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
Probably the late nights in the studio my Freshman and Sophomore year. It was fun getting to be with my friends who were also experiencing something new and hard, and it taught me how to manage my time better as well.
What was your favorite A+D class?
Resurrections of Typography with prof. Speaker. There’s something so powerful about taking an old typeface that may no longer be used, and turning it in to a working typeface and giving it new purpose.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
My rebrand of the Metropolitan Arts Council. It was the first branding project I worked hard on in the research phase and also the visual identity phase. During pitch week I received a lot of good feedback from the judges and my peers which made me confident in my branding abilities going forward.
What's next for you?
As of right now, I plan to work at a marketing agency in Greenville after I graduate.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope that I can hold close my love for people and make intentional design decisions along side any and every client I have. This way, I know I did my best and created something that the client finds not only visually appealing, but also useful.
